Northern Revolutions | OG’s vs Reissues, Old vs New Vinyl - A Discussion
Wednesday Dec 20, 2023
Wednesday Dec 20, 2023
In this installment of the Vinyl Community Podcasts, host Rob from "Northern Revolutions" is joined by fellow YouTube vinylists Jason Arsenault and Alex from "Beer and Vinyl" to have discussion about our collecting preferences of old vs new vinyl. New vinyl is coming out at an unprecedented pace with so many tempting new titles, remasters, reissues, expanded editions, deluxe boxsets and so on. There is a lot to tempt record collectors to shell out their hard earned money on what is increasingly becoming quite expensive new records. Or is the thrill of the hunt for original pressings and vintage discs more alluring? You also have to consider the sound quality of old and new records. It's a great time to be a record collector, but there are a lot of things to consider. Jason, Alex and Rob wrestle with these questions and share their reflections on years of collecting and how they approach the hobby today. Click ahead and start the show, already!

Concert Buddie | Opening a Record Store: Billy Hurst of RiverBend Records
Monday Dec 18, 2023
Monday Dec 18, 2023
Have you ever thought about opening a record store? Our guest on this latest 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts thought about it - and did it! Joined by Billy Hurst, owner of RiverBend Records in Godfrey, Illinois, we pick his brain on just how he turned the dream most record collectors have into a bona fide reality. Before we get there, we learn about Billy's experience as part of the "Vinyl Community" on YouTube, his background in record collecting, and then what led him to the fateful decision to start a record store in the middle of a pandemic (really). RiverBend Records has been opened for just over three years, and there have been many learnings and challenges that Billy will share with us. Since opening, his shop has endeared itself not just to the local community (and St. Louis metro area), but has gained a following selling records through the Facebook platform on Monday nights. We'll learn more about that (including the last sale of 2023 the day this airs - Monday, December 18th, 6pm Central), and what future state + goals the shop has for the future. Been looking forward to doing this sitdown for sometime, and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Grab your guitar cases, Buddies! We have a bonafide musician on the pod today. For this latest 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts, we chat with Mark Anthony K of Projekt Gemineye. The only thing matched by his love of music (and collecting it) is making his own music via his band Projekt Gemineye. We talk about the origins of the project, and how he finds the inspiration to create new music. His output is quite prolific, as evidenced by a glance at his Bandcamp page. Why is it important his music is made on vinyl? Who creates the splendid artwork for these albums? What other projects can we look forward to on his label Reficul Records? Will Projekt Gemineye hit the road in 2024? Answers to these questions (and MORE) coming up here on Vinyl Community Podcasts!
