Surface Noise | Latest Freestyle!
Monday Jan 22, 2024
Monday Jan 22, 2024
The aftershow to the latest SURFACE NOISE episode features some talk of industry data in 2023 for performance in streaming and vinyl sales, possibly answering why the labels continue to focus much of their energy on reissues (hint: because they are proven + bankable sales), and we share some records that have found their ways of late into our collections. Plus, Jose finally resurfaces in the Vinyl Community and we hear where he's been and what he's been up to, and why he stayed in the car to talk to us instead of feasting on burgers with his buddies. Riddles galore, on this latest freestyle session!

Surface Noise | Too Many Reissues?
Friday Jan 19, 2024
Friday Jan 19, 2024
Back to talking the issues of the day in the ever changing hobby of record collecting, this latest 'sode of SURFACE NOISE touches on the abundance of reissues available today - which albums are being reissued too frequently, which albums would we like to see get the reissue treatment, and are they what you would think? For this show Jason Roxas, Arnaldo (fidelios_frequency) and Concert Buddie were joined by Kevin from the YouTube channel "Me, Myself, & My Vinyl" who shares with us a plight far too many record collectors can empathize with: trying to stay in front of a growing record collection that may have outgrown our space. Hear how Kevin's doing on that journey, and from our dais if they too have been down this same road. All that and more on SURFACE NOISE, just a click away!

Surface Noise | New Year, New Problems?
Friday Jan 05, 2024
Friday Jan 05, 2024
Join us for the first SURFACE NOISE presentation of 2024. Joined by regulars Jason Roxas, Arnaldo (fidelios_frequency), David Bianco (Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion) and one of the OG's of the Vinyl Community, Brandon (MrHoffame), we tackled the following first world questions in record collecting:
(1) Has FOMO eased in the record collecting community lately?
(2) Right Direction/Wrong Direction: we discuss parts of the hobby going in the right direction, and others not doing the same headed in the wrong direction
(3) We each discuss a grail record we acquired in 2023, and what big grail we are hunting for in 2024.
Surface Noise: we spin whether you drop the needle or not...

Northern Revolutions | Generational Record Collecting
Wednesday Jan 03, 2024
Wednesday Jan 03, 2024
We are the product of those that came before us. Our physical attributes come from our parents. Our personality traits are largely inherited. Our behavioral characteristics are mostly environmental. So to what extent do our parents or the homes we grew up in shape us into the music fanatics and avid record collectors we are today? Fellow YouTuber Sam St. John joins our host Rob from Northern Revolutions to discuss how our upbringing likely contributed to this clinical condition we all have called record collecting. Both coming from childhoods enriched and surrounded by music, Rob and Sam reflect on the influences that their parents had on shaping their love of music and how that fed a compulsive addiction to vinyl. Tune in so you too can say, "It's not my fault, blame my parents".

Concert Buddie | Collecting Records and 24 Hour Livestreams: George Borden
Tuesday Jan 02, 2024
Tuesday Jan 02, 2024
Happy New Year Buddies! We couldn't think of a better way to start 2024 than to speak to the man who recently completed a Vinyl Community first: a 24 hour live stream. Joined by George Borden, we hear all about the motivation, inspiration, and deprivation involved in livestreaming while talking about records + music for 24 hours straight. We also hear what got George started collecting records in the first place, how he started mastering, producing, and recording music, and what we DIDN'T get to see during that marathon streaming session. All this and MORE on this latest episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts!
