Back on the airwaves of Vinyl Community Podcasts, Alex (Beer & Vinyl) shares a recent interview with musician/songwriter M Ross Perkins. M Ross Perkins is currently a featured artist on the Colemine Records label, and has a new album that dropped on May 2nd (interview recorded prior) entitled "What's The Matter, M Ross?"

Composed, performed, and recorded completely by Perkins in his Dayton, OH studio, What’s the Matter… is both the most stripped down and expansive within his tryptic of albums ("Wrong, Wrong, Wrong", "E Pluribus M Ross", and Now "What's The Matter...").

The headphone symphonies move with a deliberate, composed sophistication while the lyrics explore fresh territory, turning the camera away from the “butterscotch revue” and pointing it into a mirror. "The touchstones of psych pop remain: flourishes of Nilsson are still here, but so are Gram Parsons and Jonathan Richman. If you want to assign geography to What’s the Matter, M Ross?, the album is equal parts Laurel Canyon and Big Pink, more Woodstock the town than the festival. Perkins is a self-contained (late-period) Teenage Fanclub with George Harrison’s spiritual sense of inner wanderlust.

Our panel of dedicated vinyl enthusiasts present another spin around the turntable, where in this week's podcast proper we'll discuss the hardest records to collect, find, or track down - does it vary by label, by artist, or genre? How much of a pursuit is TOO much of a pursuit (limits, people, limits). Everybody's got a price, but somebody's gotta pay (shoutout to the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase) 💵

Then we discuss what is the the best "closing" song to see in concert from a band or artist. Not just the "play the hits" crowd, but THE hit - the one that sends the crowd happy, the biggest hit, the song synonymous with the artist/band. THAT is a song to close a show with! 🤩
