Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Rocco Richardson (Pieces of Vinyl)
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
Wednesday Jun 07, 2023
Great to be back, Buddies! Thanks for tuning in to this latest 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts and the series "Mind of The Record Collector". For this latest trip around the turntable I'm joined by fellow record collector Rocco Richardson, host of the YouTube Channel "Pieces of Vinyl". Rocco has done an OUTSTANDING job of launching his channel and providing his audience with not only terrific vinyl news, tips, and music variety, but his production value is second to none - arguably the best out there. Though this conversation I learned there is a distinct reason behind that, and we explore his 15 month+ journey so far in the trenches of the YouTube algorithm and Vinyl Community at large. We learn about Rocco's own collecting journey, including where his wide palate of taste in music comes from, and we touch on a new opportunity that has presented itself here recently for Rocco to collaborate with the subscription service Vinyl Me Please. Big doings, Buddies! All this and more coming up on this latest conversation on Vinyl Community Podcasts! Thanks for joining us!

Souldisco | Saving the Music: Interview with Dan Johnson - Audio Engineer + Archivist
Wednesday May 31, 2023
Wednesday May 31, 2023
Nadine (Souldisco) is back with another great interview here on Vinyl Community Podcasts. This time she is speaking with Dan Johnson, owner of Audio Archiving Services. Affectionately known as “The Muffin Man” according to Michael Jackson (more on that), this Maryland native has over 20 years of experience as an audio engineer, having worked for legendary Los Angeles recording studios such as Ocean Way/United Recording, Capitol Records, and Record One. For almost a decade he has exclusively focused on tape-based audio archiving, and in the process become one of the foremost experts in audio archiving, including a stint as a featured panelist for NAMM and AES. During his career, he has transferred some of the best selling albums in history for record labels, producers, artists, and estates including over 10,000 reels consisting of almost every format from full track mono to 48 track digital. As Dan puts it: "Our goal at AAS is to provide our clients with the highest quality transfers, from their tapes to a more usable digital format. As an audio engineer, I understand the love and sacrifice that goes into creating the original recording, and it's my privilege to preserve the artists' legacies through the archival process". We trust that you will find this conversation insightful, interesting, and informative as we did! Thanks again for your support and listening to this episode!

Surface Noise | Still Looking for a One Night (Mic) Stand
Monday May 29, 2023
Monday May 29, 2023
Here we go again, Buddies! On this latest rendition of Surface Noise, I'm joined by David Bianco (Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion), Jason Roxas, and Arnaldo (Fidelios_Frequency) plus a new voice to the dais (but an old friend of mine) Tavis from Vinyl Talk with Tavis to discuss the unfortunate news of Tina Turner's passing - our memories and remembrances of the Queen of Rock - and then dig into the recent news of Rhino launching their own "premium" selection of audiophile-grade vinyl offerings with The Cars self-titled debut from 1978 and John Coltrane's "Coltrane's Sound" from 1964. The panel shares their thoughts on this latest player to the audiophile reissue arena, the potential thought process behind these titles at launch, and then a deeper dive of reissues in general: is the market being oversaturated with reissues and the multitude of marketing buzzwords and perceived values (obi strips, color vinyl, etc) that is jamming the bins of our record stores with product only targeted for new collectors and FOMO victims alike? This and more on the latest edition of Surface Noise, here only on Vinyl Community Podcasts!
Shoutout to regular panelist Jose Moreno Rahn on his upcoming nuptials!
Shoutout to our friends Steve Carlson & Jim Gleason and their terrific podcast "2 Guys Talking About Records". Check them out on Spotify, Podbean, iHeart Radio, and other podcasting platforms!

Friday May 26, 2023
Memorial Day Weekend Special Presentation!!! You wanted the best? You got the....us, Buddies! In an exclusive chat only found on Vinyl Community Podcasts, I have enlisted some of the biggest and best KISS fans I know in the Vinyl Community to educate, inform, and inspire me to better understand KISS fandom. As part of the current "final tour", I recently purchased tickets to my first KISS concert in a few months, and so it felt like the right time to understand the multi-faceted parts of being a fan of one of the biggest bands of all-time. On this journey I'm joined by Dylan (The Record Spinner,) Brandon (MrHoffame), Arnado (fidelios_frequency), and Felipe (Jazz Bums) (yes, you read that right....THAT Felipe - not a typo). This is the first installment of a series of chats we'll be having over the coming months as KISS wind down their touring stage shows. Let us know what you think, and any topics you'd love us to tackle in future episodes! Now excuse me while I put my makeup on....\m/ \m/

Concert Buddie | New School vs Old School: Record Collecting Across Generations
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Welcome in, Buddies! This 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts is a fun conversation I shared recently with Matt Dunn from the YouTube Channel Prime Analog Records and his daughter Bennett to discuss record collecting + music consumption in a "new school vs. old school" kind of way. Like most dads, Matt instilled his love of music early in Bennett's formative years, and we talk about why he felt it was important to share a diverse offering of musical styles + artists with her. Whereas Matt and myself were conditioned (#olds) to consume our music through physical media, Bennett is part of newer generations of listeners who employ their device(s) of choice to stream music: for discovery, ease, and convenience alike. Without the dominant influence of traditional terrestrial radio, how do we discover new bands + new music without having to spend inordinate amounts of time doing so? From there, Bennett takes us on a walk of her own music journey, including touching on admiration of present day artists like Taylor Swift, country music, and how she finds new music through streaming services while still building a record collection uniquely her own. We close with some light, fun, and curiosity-driven questions in the lightning round. Thanks for tuning in and your continued support of Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Scott Wilson (The Pressing Matters)
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Thanks for dropping in again, Buddies! Concert Buddie here with another terrific 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts! I'm joined for this conversation with a fellow record collector in the Vinyl Community: Scott Wilson, host of the YouTube Channel "The Pressing Matters". Scott has done a great job of creating videos on a myriad of topics, most centered around his pursuit of great sounding records (simple enough, right?). This conversation will walk through Scott's origins with YouTube, and provide background into where his vinyl collecting journey has taken him over the years. With topics on a variety of genres, Scott's channel hones in on great sounding reissue releases, specifically of the audiophile variety. Why does Scott prefer these versions compared to originals? Does Scott consider himself an Audiophile (and what does that even mean these days)? Has he recovered from MoFi-Gate? Answers to these questions (and more), and a nice "rapid fire" round to wrap up this fun chat, are just a click away. Welcome in...to another 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts!
