Surface Noise | Interim Host + Musician Talk
Monday May 15, 2023
Monday May 15, 2023
Ever wake up hungover, Buddies? This episode of Surface Noise is kind of like that. Guest host Louie Golden is joined by regulars Arnaldo (Fidelios_Frequency), Jose Moreno Rahn, and Jason Roxas to answer a simple question: do record collectors feel any guilt by not listen to their growing collections on a regular basis? The answers may surprise you. Later, with 75% of the dais comprised of musicians, the topic of musician shaming (tastes, other musicians skill levels, etc) is brought up. Special thanks to Louie for pinch-hitting on this show, and for citing Jose for numerous red flags for showing too many records in one sitting.

Wednesday May 10, 2023
The Vinyl Community Guncles (Robert, Richard, Craig, and Mike) have returned to the airwaves of Vinyl Community Podcasts! This episode finds them sharing their preferred listening methods of listening to music (and why). Are some albums ones listened to once, only to sit on a shelf? Multiple listens in the same session? Dedicated listening rooms to only focus on listening to the music? What about people that buy records and don't open them purely to collect them? Or the patented collectors who buy one to listen to and another to keep sealed? The guys touch on all these distinct approaches to collecting + listening today in the hobby and more! Now sit back and have some fun courtesy of our friends the Vinyl Community Guncles!

Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion | Diary of a Beatlemaniac
Wednesday May 03, 2023
Wednesday May 03, 2023
Welcome aboard! Host David Bianco from Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion brings a splendid conversation to the airwaves of Vinyl Community Podcasts speaking with Patricia Gallo-Stenman, author of the award-winning book "Diary of a Beatlemaniac".
Pattie was a teenager when The Beatles swept in the British Invasion into America in 1964. Her immersion into all things Beatles and her desire to capture it all in her personal diary has now been opened for our reading (and listening) pleasure.
We'll delve into the beginnings of her own relationship with the Fab Four, including sharing insights into her own record collection. What's it like to attend a "Beatlefest"? More importantly, who exactly are "The Beatle Babes"? Answers to these questions and more as we skip down memory lane to (briefly) return to a time hard to imagine unless you lived it yourself. Let's ride!

....and we're BAAAAACK! Aloha, Buddies! We've got another terrific edition of Surface Noise ready to share with you here on Vinyl Community Podcasts! We are joined by Arnaldo (fidelios_frequency), Music Talk with John, David (Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion), and world traveler and jet lagged record collector Jason Roxas to recap our collective RSD experiences (even for those that couldn't stand in the lines themselves), and then hear about some of Jason's experiences at Den Bosch, which bills itself as the largest record collector show in the world. Is that accurate? Was his trip a bonafide success? And who on earth would wait almost 12 hours in line for a Macho Man Randy Savage rap album? Answers to those burning questions (and more) ahead on this episode of Surface Noise!

Souldisco | The Gospel Truth: A Vinyl Me, Please Boxset Discussion with Jared Boyd
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
Welcome back to another episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts! This spin on the dance floor sees our friend Nadine c/o Souldisco return to our airwaves to share a splendid conversation with Jared "Jay B" Boyd on the recent boxset reissue effort from Vinyl Me, Please titled: "Truth Is Where It's At -- A Gospel Truth Collection".
The Gospel Truth Label (aka Stax Records Gospel Label), was an imprint of the famous Stax Records label from Memphis, Tennessee. The Gospel Truth series debut in 1972 and produced over 20 albums until 1978, featuring some of the biggest names in Gospel music: The Rance Allen Group, The Staple Singers, The Soul Stirrers, The Pilgrim Jubilees, and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. These albums featured a wide range of Gospel music styles including traditional Gospel, contemporary Christian music, and Soul Gospel.
The Gospel Truth series was known for its high-quality production and arrangements, with some of the most talented musicians and producers in the industry working on the albums. Lauded for it's powerful and uplifting messages, this series featured songs + albums touching on themes of faith, hope, and love. Although Stax Gospel and The Gospel Truth series had a relatively short lifespan, they made a significant impact on the Gospel music industry and helped to popularize Gospel music outside of the church. The legacy of Stax Gospel and The Gospel Truth series lives on, with their influence felt in the music of contemporary Gospel artists and the continued popularity of Gospel music worldwide.
Jay B authored the special 20-page Listening Notes booklet included in this boxset. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies, the box set includes 6LPs on 180g black vinyl, with AAA lacquers cut from the original tapes by Ryan K. Smith of Sterling Sound.
We trust you'll find this conversation informative, interesting, and fun! Thanks again for joining us on another episode of Vinyl Community Podcasts!

Concert Buddie | Mind of The Record Collector: Norman Maslov
Monday Apr 24, 2023
Monday Apr 24, 2023
Whoa Buddies! Concert Buddie here. Are you in for a treat today here on another 'sode of Vinyl Community Podcasts! Our guest today is known to many in the VC at large: Norman Maslov. Better known as Mazzy (remember, Mazzy Loves You), he's been a fixture in the community for many years, helping share many tales from a life learned and lived in music. From growing up in San Francisco during the late 60's - seeing the rise of some of the most famous bands in the world: The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane (and more) directly, in front of his own eyes, to working at a record store, and eventually a major label, Mazzy has spent much of his life closely tied to his passion for music. Arriving on YouTube years ago to share these stories was simply the natural progression into his own musical story. That said, this conversation gets into how he started on YouTube, how he's found connectivity in the community (including selling a viewer's own record collection), and we touch on a topic fathers out there may be able to relate to: what do we do when our children do not share our same passions; at least as passionately as we do? More specific: what's gonna happen to all our records when our time to leave this celestial plane comes? It was a great conversation, and one I hope you enjoy listening to here on this latest edition of Vinyl Community Podcasts!
