For this latest trip around the turntable, Sam St. John (aka Americana Sam) had the great fortune of sitting down with legendary singer, songwriter and PLATINUM selling artist Tommy James.
In this chat, they discuss his long historic career with Tommy James and the Shondells and iconic hits like "Mony, Mony", "Crimson and Clover", and "I Think We're Alone Now"; songs that have been covered from other legendary artists ranging from Billy Idol, Prince, Dolly Parton, and even Tiffany.
Besides regular touring, Tommy has hosted the radio show "Gettin' Together with Tommy James" on SiriusXM 60s Gold (channel 73) for eight years and counting, where he shares stories about songs and artists from the 60s and beyond including his own experiences as a hitmaker, touring, new projects and so much more. The conversation even touches on the mafia-ran Roulette Records, featured in his book "Me, The Mob, and The Music".

We close the show with a talk about the passing of a Vinyl Community friend, Billy Jones. The late owner of Billy's Record Salon in Brooklyn was a friend to all, a terrific grate digger, and most importantly, an excellent human. 💔

An avid record collector himself, Adam shares his music journey, formation of this band (a two-time nominee for Rock Act of The Year for the New England Music Awards), the writing and recording of the album, and the decision-making they undertook to bring this work to life. ⚡️
From choosing the specific mastering engineer (Ryan Smith), down to the pressing plant used to make the actual vinyl records (Fidelity Record Pressing aka MoFi's plant), and why it was ESSENTIAL the album was recorded and mastered for vinyl. The show of record on collecting records had a power-packed show lined up, but as fate would have it, The Beatles had other ideas (thanks Ringo). We kick off SURFACE NOISE talking about the sudden announcement of the Beatles + Mono boxset repress coming in a few weeks: who is picking it up, why repress this again (first since 2014), and what will these mean for those who already have the 2014 version and will likely see their value plummet.
Then, as the Surface Noise Boys begins summer hours, our panel of vinylists discuss the greatest "what if's" in music history. If tragedy or bad decision-making didn't take place, how would parts of the popular cultural landscape potentially look different?
